Does Smoking Cause Infertility?

Every married couple certainly wants a complete household life with the presence of a baby. However, if you have tried but cannot yet have offspring, you must be patient.

In medical terms, the condition of not having a child is called infertility. Infertility is the inability of one partner to get offspring after one year of sexual intercourse without contraception.

"If you get pregnant but miscarriage, it's still called infertility. If you already have children, not infertility. If you miscarry repeatedly, for example, up to three times, we still call infertility," said Dr. Reino Rambey, Sp.OG at the Folkaland program 'Peeled Off the Pregnant Program' at Balai Sarwono, Kemang, South Jakarta, Sunday, March 31, 2019.

A healthy lifestyle is very important in order to have good quality sperm cells and ovum cells. One of them is not smoking. However, of course there are still many couples or one of them who smokes, but can still have offspring.

"Smoking destroys certain cells, medically, it kills cells. It is not the person who dies, but the cells that die. Only we cannot ascertain which cells are damaged. So if there are people who smoke, but many children, damaged cells are not the egg, "said Dr. Reino again.

Apart from smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, obesity, insurmountable stress, excessive exercise, lack of exercise, mumps (in men) also affect infertility.
